The Visible Mind
The neuroscience of thinking together
The brain processes one billion bits of information every second. Only ten reach conscious thought. This talk explores what happens to the rest, the patterns, intuitions, and insights that are there but don’t easily make it into words. Drawing on the latest neuroscience and the science behind the Epics® method, we explore what the mind is truly capable of when we stop relying on language alone. Participants experience it firsthand: when a metaphor-rich object replaces a sentence, something the room didn't know it knew surfaces. Collective intelligence becomes visible.
What objects enable
The language of visual metaphors
Every manager knows the meeting where everyone nods but nothing really lands. This talk explores why — and what changes when thinking moves from words into physical form. Built on the same metaphors we already use in everyday language, Epics® objects give teams a way to say what is difficult to say, see what is hard to see, and build understanding that actually sticks. Why these colors, these forms, these figures? And what happens in the brain when design and visual metaphors work together to make the unspoken speakable? Participants will use Epics® to express something words struggle to hold, and feel, firsthand, how an object captures what a sentence cannot.
Psychological safety and the courage to speak
Dialogue, power, and who gets heard
Not everyone speaks equally in a room. Hierarchy, culture, profession, and language all shape who feels safe to contribute, and whose thinking ends up driving decisions. Without psychological safety, people perform agreement rather than bring forward honest talk and are open to learn from each other. This talk explores the hidden power dynamics of group dialogue, what psychology and neuroscience tells us about how safety forms, and how metaphor-rich objects fundamentally level the floor. Participants will share something real through an object and notice how much easier it is to speak when the figure, not you, holds the floor.
Leading transformation, strategy, and culture with visible thinking
Transformation fails not because of strategy but because of invisible misalignment — people using the same words while imagining very different futures. The same is true of culture: values declared on walls but never made real in rooms. This talk explores how making thinking visible creates the conditions for genuine change in strategy work, culture development, and organisational transformation. It surfaces the honest talk that usually stays unsaid, makes the practical implications concrete, and turns abstract goals into real, tangible things a team can act on. When teams can see their thinking, shape it together, and build shared commitment around it, alignment stops being declared and starts being real. With metaphor-rich objects as the anchor, the work becomes something everyone can own.
